At the security conference in Munich, the European Union’s foreign policy representative, Josep Borrell, advocated stronger and faster military support for Ukraine. In view of the great need for ammunition, a new procurement procedure is being worked on in the EU.
President Zelenskyy and the Ukrainians received a lot of applause but not enough ammunition. That is the paradox. It needs less applause, but a better supply of weapons.
Chinese peace initiative – and US warning
On the fringes of the security conference, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and China’s top foreign policy leader Wang Yi also held talks, the first meeting of senior representatives from both countries since a balloon was shot down on the US east coast two weeks ago.
China surprisingly announced a peace initiative for Ukraine – without giving any details. The United States, on the other hand, warned China about arms deliveries to Russia. There is information that China is considering this, said US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken after the meeting with Wang Yi. This escalation would have “serious consequences” for China.
